Prime Solutions Application Instructions

Installing the Prime Solutions computer application is easy! First, grab the latest installer for your operating system (Windows or Mac OSX only) here.

Windows

Windows System Requirements

To run the Prime Solutions Windows Application, your computer will need to meet the following system requirements.

  • Windows 7, 8, or 10. Windows 7, Windows 8.1, or Windows 10 are preferred versions of Windows. WINDOWS RT IS CURRENTLY NOT SUPPORTED.
  • 5 GB of free capacity on your hard drive. It is recommended to install and run the application on your hard drive. It is not recommended to run the application from an external drive, such as a USB (thumb) drive.
  • 2 GB RAM is the minimum required to run the application. It is recommended to have 4 GB RAM on a computer to use in a classroom setting. It is recommended to close all other applications when using the Prime Solutions application in a classroom setting, to free up as much system resources as possible. If the system does not have enough resources, the application is likely to not play through the entire course.
  • .NET 4 Framework. If you run the Prime Solutions application installer and you do not have .NET 4 Framework, it will let you know. To install it, click here.
  • The following URLs need to be accessible by the application. If your network has a firewall that restricts communication to HTTP traffic, these URLs might need to be added to the allow the application to function.

Windows New Installation Instructions

A step-by-step guide follows for setting up the Prime Solutions application on your Windows machine.

To install the Windows version of the Prime Solutions computer application, follow these instructions:

  • Double click executable file you downloaded from here to start the installation process.
  • Click through the license agreement and default install location.
  • Allow the installer to run by clicking "ok."
  • Complete setup screen, click "finish." At this time, the butterfly icon should be on your desktop and in the program files in start menu.
  • Run the application by double-clicking the butterfly shortcut on your desktop.
  • A message about passive login failure might appear. Click "ok."
  • If the passive login failed, a login screen will appear where you put on your Prime Solutions login credentials. Forgot your login password? Enter your email in the login recovery form and an email will be sent to reset your password. Alternatively, run in trial mode to immediately use the application.
  • A new screen appears with a button for running the update. Click the "run update" button. The application will go through content updates, which could take up to several hours, depending on your download speed. As the application goes through the asset download phase, you should see a continuous progression. The asset number (e.g., "asset 19 of 274"), should increase steadily through the process. Some assets will take longer to download than others, so it is expected the current asset number may sit on some assets longer than others. However, if during the process the application stalls on a particular asset for a very long time compared to the others, the application may have lost connection. If this happens, the quickest way to get the process back on track is to close the application and start it again. Upon application restart, the asset download phase should pick back up where it left off (i.e., it should not start over on asset 1).
  • When the update is finished, the application will launch into preparation mode.

Windows Upgrade Installation Instructions

Running a Windows application upgrade is very similar to a new installation. There are just a few things you need to know that are unique to the upgrade process. To perform the upgrade, you run the same executable as the new installation, which is located here. Double-click the executable file to begin the upgrade. The first operation that happens is the existing install is removed. During this process you might see the desktop shortcut disappear and some of the files in the root installation folder (though not all files are removed). After the uninstall completes, there might be a few seconds where nothing appears to occur - this is normal. Just wait until you see an installation window appear. There is a chance this window does not obtain focus, and you will not see it automatically. In this case, look for a tab in the system tray labeled "Prime Solutions Setup" - the system tray icon will look like a computer monitor with a box to the left, and a disc in the front. Once you get this far, the procedure is the same as the new installation, and you can follow the rest of the instructions here.

Mac OSX

OSX System Requirements

To run the Prime Solutions Mac OSX Application, your computer will need to meet the following system requirements.

  • OSX Version 10.9 or higher is recommended.
  • 5 GB of free capacity on your hard drive. It is recommended to install and run the application on your hard drive. It is not recommended to run the application from an external drive, such as a USB (thumb) drive.
  • 2 GB RAM
  • The following URLs need to be accessible by the application. If your network has a firewall that restricts communication to HTTP traffic, these URLs might need to be added to the allow the application to function.

OSX New Installation Instructions

Download the latest Mac OSX New Installer here. Make sure and choose the file with the label New Install. When you run this file, it will mount the disk image to your hard drive and should open a window automatically. In the window you will see a "Prime Solutions" folder with an arrow pointing to the "Applications" folder link. Drag the "Prime Solutions" folder on top of the "Applications" folder link to copy the "Prime Solutions" folder to your "Applications" folder. Inside of the Prime Solutions folder is an application of the same name, "Prime Solutions." Follow these steps to complete the Prime Solutions application setup.

  • Run the application by double-clicking the application in Applications/Prime Solutions folder. It can also be located in the Launchpad view.
  • A message about passive login failure appears, this is normal. Click "ok."
  • A login screen should appear where you put on your Prime Solutions login credentials. Forgot your login password? Enter your email in the login recovery form and an email will be sent to reset your password. Alternatively, run in trial mode to immediately use the application.
  • The application will go through content updates, which could take up to several hours, depending on your download speed.
  • When the update is finished, the application will launch into preparation mode.

OSX Upgrade Installation Instructions

If you have already installed the Prime Solutions application with an installer and you wish to upgrade to a newer version of the application, then this is the option for you. Chances are if you have a folder called "Prime Solutions" in your Applications folder, then you have already installed the Prime Solutions application at some point, and an upgrade is what you need, not a new install.

Download the latest Mac OSX Upgrade Installer here. Make sure and choose the file with the label Upgrade. When you run this file, it will mount the disk image to your hard drive and should open a window automatically. In the window you will see a "Prime Solutions" application with an arrow pointing to the "Prime Solutions" folder link (If you have installed the Prime Solutions application before using an installer, this folder should already exist inside your Applications folder). Drag the "Prime Solutions" application icon on top of the "Prime Solutions" folder link to copy the application to your "Prime Solutions" folder. Follow these steps to complete the Prime Solutions application setup.

  • Run the application by double-clicking the application in Applications/Prime Solutions folder. It can also be located in the Launchpad view.
  • A message about passive login failure might appear, this is normal. Click "ok."
  • If passive login failed, a login screen should appear where you put on your Prime Solutions login credentials. Forgot your login password?   • The application will change to an update screen with a button to run the update. Click the button to begin the update procedure. Depending on the state of your content library, the update could take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. The progress bar at the bottom will provide feedback on the update progress.
  • When the update is finished, the application will launch into preparation mode.
